According to critics, his ‘Opera Comique’ placed too much emphasis on loose women and this was obviously not possible in the prudish late 1800s. Bizet had to adapt the piece and that was really not to his liking. Emma Calvé, who played the role of Carmen 1000 times, will never be able to express her admiration for this suite, but we are convinced that Hof van In will receive better reviews.
